Singlet bags — for carrying goods
Singlet bags are bags with handles, commonly used at grocery shops and stalls to carry goods. They are usually white or clear. Common sizes are 6x11, 6x14, 8x16 and 9x18, and there is also a range of sizes from 6x11 to 12x20.
HD plastic — thin but strong
HD stands for high density. HD plastic is thin but strong, and is commonly used to wrap dishes with gravy and drinking water, then tied with raffia string. HD plastic is usually sold in 500g and 1kg packs and in various sizes.
Clear PP plastic — see what is inside
Clear PP plastic is see-through, so the contents are easy to see. It suits kuih, bread and dry goods that you want to display. Clear PP plastic is usually sold in 500g and 1kg packs, as well as jumbo sizes from 10x16 to 24x36.
How to read the size
Bag sizes are usually written as width x length. For example, 8x16 means 8 inches wide and 16 inches long. Sizes are in inches for all the sizes above. A 500g or 1kg label is the weight of one pack, not what the bag can hold.
